Huddersfield self storage company MoorSpace named finalist in prestigious European awards

A Huddersfield self storage company has been named as a finalist in one of the industry’s leading European awards.

MoorSpace Storage Co, based in Crosland Moor, has been shortlisted for External Storage Site of the Year at the FEDESSA 2026 European Self Storage Awards.

The business will now represent Huddersfield alongside some of Europe’s leading self storage operators when the winners are announced in Frankfurt at the end of September.

The recognition marks an important milestone for MoorSpace, whose self storage journey began in 2018 as George Street Self Storage, initially offering external storage units from its Crosland Moor site.

Since then, the independent business has continued to invest in its facilities, security, technology and customer experience, culminating in its rebrand to MoorSpace Storage Co.

In April of this year, following significant investment, MoorSpace launched a brand-new, purpose-built indoor storage facility.

The development transformed a former food warehouse in Crosland Moor into a modern self storage facility featuring more than 100 indoor units, ranging in size from 16 sq ft to 175 sq ft.

The new facility was designed to complement MoorSpace’s established external storage site, providing local residents and businesses with a wider choice of secure and flexible storage options.

The European Self Storage Awards recognise excellence across the industry, with finalists assessed on much more than the appearance of their facilities.

The judging process considers areas including business performance, site presentation, security, marketing and online presence, pricing strategy, community involvement and environmental considerations.

For MoorSpace, the shortlisting recognises the work undertaken across the entire business – from continued investment in the site and its security systems to the technology used to make booking and accessing storage more straightforward.

The company has introduced an app that allows customers to manage their accounts and access the site, while its security measures include extensive CCTV coverage and 24-hour monitoring.

Customer experience has also remained an important focus as the business has grown. MoorSpace offers storage for individuals, families, students and businesses, with flexible rental periods and a choice of indoor and external units.

Managing director Chris Betts said: “We were absolutely delighted when we found out that MoorSpace had been selected as a finalist, but the more we have looked into the judging process, the more we have realised just how significant the achievement is.

“This is not simply an award for having a tidy or well-presented storage site. The judges look at how the whole business operates – from security and customer service to performance, marketing, technology and community involvement.

“Our journey started in Huddersfield in 2018, and we have spent the years since investing, learning and continually looking for ways to improve.

“The launch of our new indoor facility in April was a major step forward for MoorSpace. Transforming a former food warehouse into a purpose-built self storage facility represented a significant investment in the business and allowed us to provide even more choice for people and businesses across Huddersfield.

“To now have our work recognised by our own industry, and to be considered alongside some of the best external storage operators in Europe, is something our whole team can be incredibly proud of.

“We would, of course, love to bring the award back to Huddersfield, but reaching the European final already tells us that we are doing something right.”

MoorSpace has also developed strong connections within the local community.

The company is a Huddersfield Town commercial partner for the 2026/27 season and supports local organisations and good causes, including Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, National Children’s Air Ambulance, Huddersfield Town Foundation, EPIKS, Golcar Cricket Club and Golcar Winkle Club.

Chris added: “MoorSpace is firmly rooted in Huddersfield, so having the opportunity to represent the town on a European stage makes this recognition even more special.

“We are very grateful to our customers, team, suppliers, partners and everyone who has supported the business throughout its development. They have all played a part in helping MoorSpace reach this point.”

The winner of External Storage Site of the Year will be announced at the FEDESSA 2026 European Self Storage Awards final in Frankfurt on Thursday September 24 2026.
