Huddersfield Railway Station is to be closed for another 16-day stretch from mid-September 2026.
As the countdown continues to the completion of the three-year restoration and internal modernisation scheme, the station will undergo another shutdown – or ‘blockade’ – from Saturday September 19 to Sunday October 4.
Transpennine Route Upgrade says the closure is due to major improvement works taking place between Stalybridge and Mirfield. This includes:
Passengers are asked to plan their journeys in advance by checking www.Nationalrailenquiries.co.uk or with train operators TransPennine Express or Northern.
Huddersfield Railway Station has had the historic Euston canopy roof restored, extensions to platforms 4, 5 and 6 and a new footbridge installed.
The timber-boarded tearoom building, which was dismantled into 8,000 pieces, is to be rebuilt.
Before the station is ready to fully re-open – probably on February 2 2027 – there will be a final 38-day ‘blockade’ between December 24 and February 1.
Sophie Leishman, TRU sponsor, said: “Work is progressing well with the completion of two major periods of improvement work between Huddersfield and Leeds across May and June.
“Our attention now turns to a 16-day closure of Huddersfield station in September which will facilitate both track and drainage renewals, track and overhead line installation and station construction work.”
Drivers have been warned about road closures and disruption over the next few weeks. Read more about that HERE.
