It’s crunch time again and anyone worth their salt (and vinegar) will be heading to the Huddersfield International Crisp Festival next month.
There’s nothing cheesy about this tongue-in-cheek event which is back for its third year at The Sportsman in Huddersfield from Friday October 2 to Sunday October 11 2026.
The humble crisp is the snack that unites the nation but there’s one beef (y) – what makes for the perfect crisp butty?
The inaugural Crisp Butty World Championship will answer this question once and for all.
On Sunday October 4 entrants are invited to create the ultimate crisp butty, in one of four categories:
How the Championship works
Entrants should bring their own ingredients and serving vessel to construct and present their crisp butty to the panel. Entrants can enter as many categories as they choose.
It will be judged by an expert panel that includes festival founder and self-proclaimed Crispfluencer John Fletcher and the team behind the Eat Crisps app, the app for rating crisps.
John said: “Crisp butties are a Great British institution and we relish this opportunity to celebrate our national cuisine. But the best traditions are continually evolving and improving.

“The World Crisp Butty Championship is an opportunity to highlight the gold standard of crisp butty gastronomy and advance this noble culinary art form.”
Entry is free and you can enter as many categories as you like but you must register HERE.
The Crisp Butty World Championship is just one of many events that will be running over the course of the Huddersfield International Crisp Festival, including crisp and beer pairing events, crisp quizzes, Bottomless Crunch and live music from Fleetwood Snack and Prawn Cocktaylor Swift.
There will also be a fringe festival at The Sportsman’s sister pub in Huddersfield, The County Beerhouse.
