Huddersfield Giants U19s Ladies took on newly-formed York Valkyrie U19s at York St Johns University Sports Park.

York started the brightest and took just eight minutes to open the scoring. Huddersfield responded quickly but were unable to ground their attack and it was York who extended their lead to 10-0 within the first 15 minutes.

The first points for Huddersfield came soon after with a try from Amelia Brown, comfortably converted by Ruby Tyson. Brown added another try in the 34th minute with Tyson’s conversion giving Huddersfield the lead and settling them into the game.

Tries from Tyla Naidole and Lois Naidole plus another from Brown, all successfully kicked by Tyson, gave Huddersfield a commanding 30-10 lead. However York added another six points before Brown went over for her 4th try of the game.

Following Brown leaving the field due to an injury, the momentum then swung in York’s favour, they scored three tries in quick succession, reducing their deficit to just four points – 34-30 – and for a while it was Huddersfield who found themselves on the back foot and having to defend.

In the latter stages of the game, cramp and fatigue took their toll on York allowing Huddersfield to capitalise with tries from Katie Fisher and Tyla Naidole.

With some excellent work by Tyson converting six of her eight kicks, Huddersfield claimed a well deserved 44-30 victory.
