Welcome to our Huddersfield BID town centre blog where every month BID manager SAM SHARP looks at some of the exciting things going on in the town.

June is here and it’s all go for Huddersfield BID with some great events planned for the town centre.

It all starts this Sunday (June 4) with our first Artisan Market of the season. Makers from in and around Huddersfield will have some handmade gifts, craft items and tasty treats to tempt you.

The market will be in New Street near Primark and runs from 10am to 3pm. It’s another reason to come into town on Sunday and you might just find that special something.

We love the variety that our small markets bring. Better still, they are free for stallholders offering them a chance to grow their following, earn income from their craft and highlight their products to new customers.

The main event for June, however, will be our popular comic con Get Your Geek On which we hope will bring thousands of people into the town centre.

It’s on Saturday June 24 and this sci-fi-inspired event promises to be out of this world! We’ve got some big-name stars dropping in for a meet-and-greet, autograph-signing and selfies.

James Cosmo, of Game of Thrones and Braveheart, will be here, along with Paul McGann, who was the eighth Doctor Who, and Guy Henry, who played Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Tickets are on sale for those wishing to grab an autograph, photo and VIP access before the stars hit the main stage. Click here to purchase your tickets to meet James, Paul and Guy.

The whole of the town centre will be transformed and fans will dress up for the day and there’s lots to see and do.

For those who do dress up there’s a Cosplay Masquerade on the main stage at 2pm with prizes for the best costumes.

There will also be movie cars, a Star Wars zone, retro gaming and a superheroes trail. Most of the activities are free to enjoy, with merchandisers, games, face painters and a little bit of zombie madness thrown in for good measure.

Get Your Geek On was great last year but this year it’ll be even better, so come on down!

We hope this event will put Huddersfield on the map as a town of diversity and change, a place that is vibrant and somewhere to come back and visit when there isn’t a Stormtrooper wandering around the Packhorse Centre!

Speaking of the Packhorse Centre, we’re excited to be teaming up with them and Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees to launch a monthly Cuppa Club. It’s a safe and welcoming space for anyone to come along.

The Cuppa Club will be held on the second Wednesday of every month, starting on June 14. It’s in the former Peter’s unit inside the Packhorse Centre and runs from 10am to 12noon. There will be tea, coffee, buns, live music, dance and craft activities.

It’s great to see the Packhorse Centre filling up with some great retailers and this is a chance to pop in and have a look around and see how it’s changing.

For the first event on June 14 we’d love to invite you to drop by for a free bun, hot drink and some light entertainment.

Huddersfield BID are here to engage with town centre businesses, encourage partnership working and have a positive impact within the Huddersfield BID zone.

We are all in this together so let’s help to make this town great!
