Staff at a Kirklees care home made a respite visit really special for a woman with learning difficulties who recently lost her mum.

Nicola, who lives in Huddersfield, was treated to a ‘spa day’ voucher – and her first ever afternoon tea.

Staff at Heckmondwike-based Crescent Dale wanted to make Nicola’s visit an enjoyable one and went above and beyond to serve up a treat.

Nicola wanted to say thank you to staff at Crescent Dale and her dad agreed to share her story with Huddersfield Hub.

Nicola, who has mild learning disabilities, was due to have her first visit to Crescent Dale in early January but, sadly, her mum passed away and her dad thought it was better if she stayed at home.

However, Nicola said she really wanted to visit, see some old friends and make some new ones. She said it would help her feel a bit better.

Nicola’s dad was reassured she would be well looked after – and staff made sure she had a lovely time.

Staff surprised Nicola with a ‘spa voucher’ to use at the ‘Crescent Dale Spa.’ She had a choice of treatments to choose from and her day was finished with a delicious afternoon tea.

It was Nicola’s first ever afternoon tea and she loved every mouthful!

During her stay, Nicola enjoyed a wide range of activities including crafts and cooking and she kept a log of everything she did by writing on a whiteboard.

Nicola said she’d had a fantastic stay and couldn’t wait to tell her dad all about it – and go back for another visit!
