An event is being held in Huddersfield next week where the public can vote on how £100,000 of funding is spent tackling serious violence in Kirklees.
Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin has £500,000 of cash recovered from criminals for her ‘People’s Fund’, making £100k available to each of the county’s five local authority areas.
Local groups and organisations will pitch their ideas to the public in a special series of ‘You Decide’ events.
Those projects receiving the most votes on the night will see funding of up to £10,000 to deliver their plans.
The Kirklees event is being held Northfield Hall in Norfolk Avenue, Sheepridge, HD2 1GS, on Thursday May 21 (5.45pm-9pm).
Mayor Brabin said: “Our People’s Fund is giving local communities the resources they need to turn their ideas into action.
“We want people to have their say on what will make their community safer so I’m urging you all to come down and get involved.
“As we invest this money recovered from criminals back into our communities, we can prevent more lives being lost to the scourge of serious violence.”
All submissions will address serious violence, whether that’s knife crime, gangs, organised crime or violence against women and girls.
