A new four-week consultation is underway on the Kirklees Local Plan, the district’s planning blueprint.
The first stage of consultation started on August 13 and runs until September 11.
Local residents, businesses and stakeholders have the opportunity to share their views on the issues and priorities the new Local Plan should address.
The Kirklees Local Plan sets out how land across the district will be used and where new development should take place.
It guides decisions on homes, employment, transport, community facilities and the management of the built and natural environment, helping to ensure there is enough land to meet the needs of residents and businesses.
Clr Mark Smith, deputy leader of Kirklees Council, said: “The Local Plan will help shape the future of Kirklees, influencing where new homes, jobs and infrastructure could be provided, while also helping to protect and enhance our green spaces and natural environment.
“As deputy leader, I want to make sure that the plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the people who live, work and invest in Kirklees.
“We’re asking residents, businesses, community groups and other organisations with an interest in Kirklees to take the time to read the consultation and tell us what they think the key local issues and priorities are that the Local Plan should address.
“Their views will help us develop a plan that supports sustainable growth while protecting the things that make Kirklees a great place to live, work and invest.
“This is an important opportunity for everyone to have their say and help shape the future of Kirklees.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved, share their views and take part in the consultation before it closes.”
Feedback received during the consultation, alongside updated evidence on the district’s future needs, will help shape the next draft of the Local Plan, including proposed planning policies and options for future development.
It will also give the council an indication of how residents and businesses would want to be involved in future stages of the plan-making process.
