The Yorkshire Trophy will still go ahead despite more than half the clubs – including Emley AFC – pulling out.

The competition has been put back until May 17 to a date when – hopefully – some fans will be allowed back into stadia.

Eccleshill United, Garforth Town, Emley, Ossett United, Silsden, Steeton and Thackley have withdrawn from the competition, leaving Brighouse Town, Campion, Golcar United, Liversedge and Penistone Church from the original line-up.

In a statement Brighouse Town said: “We can confirm that the Yorkshire Trophy tournament will still be taking place.

“The tournament dates have altered so that the tournament takes place from May 17 when fans can attend stadiums, according to Government guidance.

“The teams in the tournament have been altered as well due to some teams pulling out. The final teams will be revealed in the coming days.

“The number of fans that can attend each stadia is dependent on the size of each club’s stadium capacity and it’s half of that capacity in which the clubs will be allowed to admit.”
