There’s not long left before Huddersfield sees The Light – but Huddersfield Hub has had a sneak peek ahead of the official opening.
The Light opens to the public at 10am on Friday (April 11) but staff are all ready to put on a show.
The Light is an £9 million cinema and entertainments venue created over 70,000 sq ft and three floors at the Kingsgate Centre.
It’s basically where the former House of Fraser store was, and Kingsgate had to raise the roof to accommodate the new leisure attraction. There are entrances behind Costa Coffee and also in Zetland Street.
The Light has 13 venues across the UK – the nearest is in Bradford – but The Light Huddersfield will be the company’s most ambitious to date. In total more than 90 full and part-time jobs have been created.
There’s a six-screen cinema with a wide range of seating from wingback armchairs and electric recliners to loungers and sofa seats, with adult tickets starting at just £6.99. The smallest cinema has 93 seats and the largest 128.
There’s 15 entertainments and activities including a nine-lane state-of-the-art bowling alley with skittles, a next-generation StarQuest Laser experience and Adventure Climb offering 26 different climbs, including the Giant Staircase, Leap of Faith, rock face and race walls.
Adventurers can also take on the High Ropes challenge with 36 different obstacles.
Other activities include a film-themed 10-hole mini golf course, featuring a 4m animatronic dinosaur, Electric Shuffleboard, Interactive Darts, Axe Throwing, Curling, a Batting Cage and karaoke booths.
Not all of the activities will be ready for the opening. An exciting interactive football experience is still to come as is interactive target shooting in The Saloon. StarQuest Laser won’t open until later on in May.
There’s a kitchen and bar serving a wide choice of meals and snacks including pizzas, burgers, hotdogs and nachos. Food can be taken into the attractions or eaten in the cinema.
The kitchen is open Monday to Friday 12noon-9pm; Saturday 10am-9pm; and Sunday 10am-7pm.
With the opening of The Light, the Kingsgate Centre car park will stay open late, seven days a week. There will also be a discount for customers using The Light. All the details about the car park can be found HERE.
The first three people in the queue on Friday will receive £150, £100 and £50 gift cards and there will be an exclusive goodie bag for the first 100 people.
A spokesman for The Light said: “This is unique and different and like nothing people will have seen before. There’s been no cutting corners and we’re all about creating memory-making experiences.”
