Huddersfield Civic Society is hosting a talk called Shaping Huddersfield’s suburbs – the Arts & Crafts influence.
The talk by local historian David Griffiths will be at Brian Jackson House on New North Parade in Huddersfield town centre on Wednesday, March 11 from 7pm to 8pm.
From the 1880s to the 1930s Huddersfield had a strong tradition of domestic architecture rooted in Pennine vernacular styles, documented in David’s new book, Huddersfield’s Arts & Crafts Houses.
In this talk David shows how developers, private clients and Huddersfield Corporation all drew on this tradition in the rapid development of the town’s suburbs during those decades.
The talk is free to HCS members with a suggested £5 donation for non-members.
