Huddersfield-based engineering component distributor Accu is expanding into the USA, with the opening of its first distribution centre there.
Accu, whose HQ is in Brockholes, has opened a 10,000 sq ft distribution centre in Indiana as it looks to grow sales across North America.
The expansion marks a major step for the company, which has also appointed its first managing director for Accu Inc.
Accu said it chose Indiana because of its central location, availability of warehouse space and proximity to supply chain partners.
The Midwestern state also has a large manufacturing sector, including steel, automotive, electrical equipment and heavy machinery.
Daniel Ackroyd, Accu’s vice president of US operations, said changes in global trade had accelerated the Huddersfield company’s plans to expand internationally.
He said: “We are excited to be opening a major distribution centre in Indiana, which will serve the North American market.
“Its strategic position as the state with the largest manufacturing sector in the US means that we are well placed to serve the wide range of industries here.
“Our Indiana distribution centre will serve primarily the home market and should lead to reduced delivery times for our US customers.
“Our plan is to grow our operations here and create a number of new jobs in the coming months.”
Accu has appointed Giovanni Cespedes as the first managing director of Accu Inc.
Mr Cespedes has more than 18 years’ experience in the US industrial market.
Accu chief executive Dan Jack said: “We are thrilled to have Gio join team Accu in this crucial senior role.
“Gio brings a unique blend of industry experience, team leadership, strategic thinking and personal integrity. He is the perfect fit for Accu and will help continue our rapid growth in the world’s largest industrial marketplace.”
The move into the US follows a strong year for the Huddersfield business, which has also held the naming rights to Huddersfield Town’s stadium since June 2025.
Founded in 2012, Accu reported a pre-tax profit of £2.12 million for the year to November 2025, up from £668,051 the previous year. Revenue rose by 24% over the same period.
The company also reported a 43% year-on-year rise in gross margin, which it attributed to new product ranges, more suppliers and an expanded consignment stock model.
Accu says the changes have allowed it to offer more products for same-day dispatch to customers around the world.
Its online store lists more than 750,000 engineering components.
