One of Huddersfield’s major companies has secured a multi-million pound investment from its parent company which will create 100 new jobs.
Lockwood-based David Brown Defence – also known as DB Defence – has developed land and marine gear systems for the defence industry for more than a century.
The exact size of the investment has not been disclosed but the company says it recognises the vital role DB Defence plays in supporting defence systems for the UK and its allies.
The investment will enhance capability and capacity at its state-of-art design and manufacturing centre and ensure vital contracts are completed both now and into the future.
Gear systems for complex military platforms take years to engineer, manufacture, assemble and test and the investment will strengthen the company’s ability to complete that work.
Mike Helme, managing director of DB Defence, said: “The investment comes at a time when defence is crucial to our national security.
“The capital will continue to strengthen our capabilities at the Park Works manufacturing facility to enable us to deliver on our land and marine programmes both now and into the future.”
DB Defence has been integral to the development of bespoke land and marine gear systems for the defence industry for more than 100 years.
It is the original designer and manufacturer of gear systems for military vehicles such as the Challenger 2, Titan and Trojan tanks and power transmission systems for maritime vessels such as the Type 26 Global Combat Ship.
This highly sophisticated and complex manufacturing is crucial to the UK’s defence infrastructure.
DB Defence currently employs more than 380 people at Park Works. The David Brown company dates back to 1860 and DB Defence is now part of David Brown Santasalo, a global group of companies.
