Kayle Price scored his 12th goal of the season as Golcar United won through to the quarter-finals of the NCEL League Cup after beating Knaresborough Town 2-0 at the Skye Direct Stadium.

The other goal was scored by Mark Everingham and the Weavers also had young goalkeeper Lewis Haley to thank for a superb penalty save.

Golcar were ahead inside the opening 10 minutes after a wonderful strike from Everingham, which looped into the top left hand corner from 25 yards out.

The away side looked to bounce straight back with an answer of their own, and thought they’d levelled in the 20th minute but the assistant referee had his flag raised for off-side.

Just two minutes later, Knaresborough were awarded a penalty but Haley brilliantly tipped Joe Navier’s spotkick onto the post and the forward couldn’t convert the rebound.

Eight minutes into the second half, Price doubled Golcar’s advantage, after his shot straight at the keeper came back to him and he bundled the ball home.

The Weavers had the ball in the net again five minutes from time but the effort was ruled out for off-side.

Golcar are at home again on Saturday (November 26) as they look to pick up their league form as they face 15th placed Thackley at the Skye Direct Stadium (3.00).
