Off the field Emley AFC bought champions Grimsby Borough a beer or two to celebrate their promotion. On the field the Pewits claimed a point to keep up their bid for a top 10 finish.

Grimsby had clinched the North East Counties Premier Division title and Emley left them some beers in the dressing room at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

The Pewits drew 0-0 in their final home game of the season and go to Scunthorpe on Wednesday (April 13) to face Bottesford to round off a campaign which has had a strong finish.

Saturday’s game had an inevitable end-of-season feel about it though both Tom Claisse and Joe Jagger came close for the home side. Claisse belted a 20-yard shot just wide and Jagger smashed a free-kick against the bar. At the other end keeper Sam Kelly was called upon to make some good saves.

Touch of class from Emley AFC

Emley were unlucky not to score in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Sam Pashley rattled the woodwork for the Pewits before Doyle smashed a 20-yard fizzer wide. James Knowles was next to try his luck, but his shot was tipped over by the keeper.

Sam Kelly pulled off another great stop when he tipped a shot onto the bar to ensure the game ended goalless.
