Celebrations as A-level students excel in exams and head off to exciting new futures

A-level students in Kirklees have been praised for their hard work after an overall pass rate of 97.9% was achieved across the district.

Around 3,500 students sat the exam this year and Kirklees Council said the class of 2025 had excelled.

Clr Jane Rylah, Cabinet member for education, said: “I am immensely proud of the accomplishments of our students.

“The dedication and resilience they have shown is truly inspiring and will open up exciting new opportunities for their futures.

“I would also like to recognise the vital support from schools, colleges, teachers and families in helping students achieve these successes.”

There were scenes of excitement and joy at many Huddersfield schools and colleges and teaching staff congratulated students on their achievements.

At Shelley College, associate principal Jack Wyatt and Dave Wadsworth, executive principal, said: “A-level, Applied General and Tech-Level courses have all improved compared with 2023–24.

“The overall pass rate for the college has once again risen, and the proportion of students achieving A*/A grades has increased for the third consecutive year.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our students for their exceptional efforts and positive contributions to the school community.

“We are immensely proud of their achievements and wish them continued success in their future academic, professional and personal endeavours.”

The school praised the “truly exceptional” progress of students Awais F, Tegan B, Louie F, Evie H, Megan A, Daniel J and Saikhan A.

They also highlighted students who achieved A*/A or Distinction*/Distinction grades across all subjects: Amelie C, Archie T-I, Mille B, Megan D, Rhys B-W, Ben M and Bel T.

Alex P achieved an exceptional set of results of A*A*A*A in Computer Science, Maths, Physics and Chemistry. This outstanding performance has secured him a place at the University of Sheffield to study Computer Science.

Other successful students included:

Millie B – University of Liverpool, English

Meanwhile, the class of 2025 at Greenhead College were also high achievers. Almost a third of the students at the college achieved grades A*/A, over 60% achieving A*/B grades, and 82% achieved a minimum of C grades.

Principal Mo Bunter said: “Academic A-levels are hard, and these results reflect the hard work and commitment from both the students and their teachers. The pass rate for the college reflects that of previous years at 99%.

“To achieve these exceptional results at A-level only happens because students have engaged with their teachers in lessons, attended subject and academic support sessions, accessed the wide range of pastoral support available to them and committed to their studies.

“Prior attainment is just an indicator of what a student could achieve but, unless they commit and work hard in the way in which the Class of 2025 have, success is not guaranteed.”
