The car park above Huddersfield Bus Station is to shut for six months for the final stage of refurbishment works.
Work started on the Upperhead Row Car Park in February this year and it will close from Monday January 5 2026.
The work will make the multi-storey car park safer and more accessible. Spaces will be wider and there will be 71 fewer spaces when the car park is completed.
The six-month closure is needed for essential work on the lifts, stairwells and fire exits. The entrance and exit ramps will also be upgraded.
When the car park re-opens, visitors will see a significant improvement in quality with new brighter lighting, clearer signage, enhanced CCTV and improved fire and emergency lighting.
Accessible spaces have more than doubled, rising from 11 to 23 and each level now has its own colour and number making it easier for people to remember where they parked.

Clear pedestrian routes make moving around safer and parking bays are wider to fit modern vehicles. The outside of the building has also been re-painted.
Work on the car park is being completed ahead of construction of the new Huddersfield Bus Station.
Clr Moses Crook, deputy leader of Kirklees Council and Cabinet member for transport, said: “This investment means safer, more modern parking at one of Huddersfield’s busiest car parks.
“It will make a real difference to everyone who uses it and strengthens the wider parking offer across the town.
“Thank you to all commuters for your patience and understanding while we get these essential improvements done.
“Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for transport in Kirklees. Major projects are set to begin, including the multi-million pound upgrade of Huddersfield Bus Station as we prepare for bus franchising with the publicly-owned Weaver bus network.”
Alternative town centre car parks include Springwood, Cambridge Road and Albion Street.
