Brockholes Carnival is to return after a nine-year absence thanks to an expanding local company which is set to open a new £1 million HQ in the village.

Honley-based precision engineering component supplier Accu is building a new 45,000 sq ft distribution centre and head office on the former Brook Motors site in Huddersfield Road, Brockholes, creating up to 200 new jobs.

And to show its commitment to the village, Accu is providing the funding for BrockFest 2023 which will take place on Brockholes Recreation Ground on Saturday August 26 (12noon-9pm). All funds raised will go back into projects in the Brockholes area and towards future events.

BrockFest will be a free to attend, family-friendly event which will feature three live bands, local food vendors and community stalls, showcasing local artists and craftmakers.

Local councillor Tony McGrath, who represents Holme Valley North, said: “It has been amazing to work with Accu to bring back an event on the Rec in Brockholes.

“The last event the village had of this size was in 2014 and it brought hundreds of people out for a family fun day.

“It was sad to see that a village the size of Brockholes with a rich history of carnivals hadn’t had one in so long, however I am certain the local residents will turn out in force for this festival and help it become an annual celebration they can be proud of.”

Clr McGrath thanked Accu for their support and added: “It is so important for local businesses to give back to the area they operate in.

“I can’t thank Accu enough for backing this project as it would not have been possible to put together without them.

“With many of their staff living locally it is great to see them investing into their community and including them in their growth and success.”

Accu, which employs over 90 people and supplies over 50% of the world’s top 100 manufacturers, expects to open its new HQ in 2024.

The firm’s managing director Alastair Morris said: “We are an international business but we employ a local workforce and supporting our local economy is hugely important to how we operate.

“That’s partly why we chose to move less than a mile from our current head office in Honley; because we want to continue that commitment and put our business innovation and growth at the heart of Huddersfield.

“Sponsoring the return of BrockFest is just one of the initiatives we’ll be involved with to support the local community, and we know how much people in the area have missed it, so being able to play a part in bringing it back to life is brilliant.”
