A double from Niall Bent sealed a first Gee Cup victory for Berry Brow A as they beat Deighton A 3-2 in a thriller.

After a tense opening period both teams opened up and the game went from end to end. Both teams were creating plenty of chances and both defences had their work cut out for them.

Deighton opened the scoring after 35 minutes with a fine goal from Jkwon Morgan. Berry Brow were awarded a penalty but quick footwork from Deighton goalkeeper Glynn Lockwood protected his side’s lead.

On the stroke of half-time Berry Brow conjured up the equaliser they deserved when Angelo Piscitelli reacted quickest to fire the ball home.

The second half opened up very much like the first and things remained even until 60 minutes when Berry Brow were awarded another penalty which Bent confidently fired home to give the Brow the lead.

Deighton threw caution to the wind and their youthful side tried to get back into the game. On 70 minutes Deighton’s Joel Pusie made it 2-2 to set up a thrilling final few minutes.

The game was being played at a fast and furious pace and on 78 minutes Bent scored his second to edge Brow ahead and they held on for a deserved win.

The game was well-managed by referee Graham Hughes assisted by Duane Chappell and Paul Vasilenko.

The defensive skills shown by Berry Brow midfielder Robert Piercy earned him the Ballcraft Trophy as Man of the Match.
