Golcar United continue to improve their ground but have already been given the go ahead for their next TWO promotions!
The Weavers have applied to Kirklees Council for retrospective planning permission for the stand behind one of the goals.
This week officials from the North West Counties League grading committee paid a visit and have given the thumbs-up to the facilities at the Skye Direct Stadium.
The club put up a new covered stand as a trial earlier this year and now want it to stay. The 30 metre long tubular structure, with a tin sheet roof, has a capacity for 200 standing fans.
Club chairman Peter Gledhill said he didn’t see any problems with securing planning permission as the police had given their support from a health and safety point of view and local residents were fine with it too.
Mr Gledhill revealed that the ground had been inspected by the grading committee and he said: “We are good for two promotions!”
That means the club’s ground is good for promotion out of the North West Counties First Division North, where they are currently, into the Premier Division – and beyond.
“We were told we have a head start on a lot of clubs at our level with the facilities. That’s because we are ambitious,” said Mr Gledhill.
Golcar has charity status and it’s two years since it started turning a council recreation ground into a football stadium.
The club has made an unbeaten start to the season with two wins and a draw and promotion this season is the aim.

“We feel we have a side going out to bat,” said Mr Gledhill, who played with Golcar between the ages of 13 and 43.
“Offensively we are very strong with the likes of Buddy Cox, Ashley Flynn, Mike Fish and Danny Naidole. Defensively we need to keep it tight and stop conceding the first goal as we have in all three games so far this season.”
Golcar also has a £32,000 100-seater main stand and the average attendance at matches is about 350.
The record attendance is 700, which came for last month’s friendly against a Huddersfield Town Academy side. Read the match report HERE.
