Huddersfield Town have gone the whole Hogg to celebrate one of the club’s modern-day stalwarts.
Club captain Jonathan Hogg has been immortalised in a giant mural painted on the side of a house near the entrance to the Great Northern Retail Park.
Hogg, who joined the club in 2013 from Watford, is celebrating a decade at Town, something almost unheard of in the modern game.
Hogg, now 35, has made 358 appearances for Town and is 13th in the list of all-time appearances. If he stays injury-free he could be close to the top 10 come the end of this season.
Last summer the club created a mural outside its Canalside training complex in Leeds Road to remember the achievements of its thrice Championship-winning side of the 1920s.
Now Hogg has been honoured from a remarkable 10-year modern-day period in the club’s history which saw Town win the Championship play-offs and spend two seasons in the Premier League. Under Hogg’s captaincy they also reached the play-off final again in 2022.
Dubbed ‘The General’ for his lead-from-the-front combative performances, there has been talk of Hogg being granted a testimonial by the club.
The latest mural, on a gable end of a terraced house on the corner of Leeds Road and Lower Fitzwilliam Street, was created by designer Peter O’Toole and artists from the Northern Mural Co. The property is owned by Barry Sykes Enterprises.
Huddersfield Town CEO Jake Edwards said: “Spending a decade with one club is no small achievement, and we felt that a player of Jonathan’s influence deserved celebrating in a lasting manner having made such a huge contribution over the past 10 years.
“Not just a recognition of service, our captain has been an integral part of Huddersfield Town both on and off the field since his arrival, operating at the centre of all that we do throughout that time, embodying what being a Terrier truly means.
“A true leader and professional, he helps set the tone for our club culture across both the first team and Academy.
“As we showed in the summer with our first mural, increasing our presence across the town is important to us, and doing so while working alongside brilliant local creatives, club partners and businesses gives what we’re trying to achieve a proud and distinctive Huddersfield feel.
“We hope supporters enjoy visiting the mural and we’re delighted to have added a new piece of art en route to our home at the John Smith’s Stadium.”
