The 6th annual Almondbury Jazz Festival raised £4,116.44 for Huddersfield mental health charity Platform 1.
The event, which took place in five venues – The Radcliffe Arms, The Woolpack, Almondbury Conservative Club, All Hallows’ Church and Almondbury Liberal Club – in November, was a big success for the village.
Platform 1 was chosen as the nominated charity and throughout the year, the Jazz Festival Committee led by chair Alan Stanger, had regular meetings with Gez Walsh, founder of Platform 1, plus others from the organisation.
The committee was told how fundraising was vital to continue the critical work of the charity in Huddersfield and beyond.
The festival, opened by Mayor of Kirklees Clr Cahal Burke, saw 10 bands take part with venues packed. There was a real buzz in the village.
All Hallows held their Jazz Cafe, Almondbury Conservative Club made pork sandwiches and chef Ben Franco at The Barn offered a takeaway service with 20% of all sales donated to Platform 1. In total The Barn donated £200 to the cause.
The committee handed over a cheque for £4,116.44 at All Hallows’ Church. The committee also produced and funded 30 Platform 1 T-shirts that were worn during the event and have since been donated to Platform 1 for their use in the future.
