Primary schools can get free environmental workshops thanks to a partnership between two Huddersfield companies.

Holmfirth-based community interest company and eco-educators fairandfunky are teaming up with Huddersfield recruitment agency Stafflex to provide the workshops for schools across Kirklees and Calderdale.

The workshops will focus on key global themes such as recycling, Fairtrade and the environment and will begin from January 2024.

The pupils will be challenged to think about how we can all make a difference to our local and global environments and, ultimately, encourage the next generation of activists to take little steps to change the world around them for the better.

It’s all about promoting sustainable lifestyles for the environment, food, saving energy and climate action in a fun way.

Helen Robinson from fairandfunky said: “Stafflex are a fantastic example of a local employer that is both responsible and active within its community and we’re thrilled to have strengthened our relationship and develop our work with them through to 2024.

“As a community interest company we are committed to empowering and educating young people in West Yorkshire on issues including healthy living, recycling, waste and Fairtrade.”

Stafflex are a family business with more than 20 years’ experience in education, office, industrial and engineering recruitment. On the education side, Stafflex supply teachers, teaching assistants and education specialists to nurseries, primary and secondary schools, further education colleges and special educational needs across Kirklees and Calderdale.

Stafflex business marketing and development manager Nemi Alexis said: “We’ve been working with fairandfunky since 2018 and see the benefits of empowering young people with the knowledge about key issues that affect the global population.

“These empowering workshops help to bring about a brighter future for everyone and we are proud to be a part of this exciting journey.”
