James Walshaw scored twice as Emley AFC kept up the pursuit of leaders North Ferriby at the top of the NCEL Premier Division with a 3-1 win at Eccleshill.
The Pewits are third in the table, 13 points behind North Ferriby with two games in hand. After an entertaining but goalless first half, Emley found their clinical touch in the second half.
Walshaw gave Emley the lead in the 49th minute, thanks to an assist from Sam Pashley, before Matthew Sykes equalised in the 65th minute.
Emley were back in front just three minutes later through the same combination. Pashley raced away down the right and fizzed a ball into the box for Walshaw who didn’t need to break stride to fire home.
It got even better for the visitors two minutes later when again Walshaw wreaked havoc in the Eccleshill defence. His shot was blocked but Iyrwah Gooden finished it off to make it 3-1.
The Pewits saw the game out well to claim their sixth successive away win. Next up is a home game against Albion Sports on Saturday January 7 (3.00).
