A brace from James Walshaw maintained Emley AFC’s unbeaten run and set up a home tie in the 2nd round of the FA Vase.
The Pewits won 3-1 at Frickley Athletic on Saturday and will seek to go beyond the 2nd round for the first time in 10 years when they face Blackpool-based Squires Gate at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday November 12.
Experienced striker Walshaw, 38, scored his first Emley goal when he touched home Iyrwah Gooden’s shot from a corner. Alhassane Keita equalised in fine style when he picked up possession 30 yards out, cut inside and slammed a brilliant curling shot beyond Dec Lambton.
A minute after the re-start Walshaw, signed on dual registration terms from Liversedge, put Emley back in front with his second before Frickley were reduced to 10 men when Lewis Binns received a second yellow card.
Frickley could have levelled when Lambton conceded a penalty after bringing down Szymon Czubik. The keeper made amends with a great save from Richard Collier and Frickley squandered the rebound.
There was six minutes of added time and Donae Lawrence sealed it for Emley with a breakaway goal, stretching their unbeaten run to 17 matches.
Emley are back in cup action again on Tuesday (October 25) when they host Oughtibridge in the Sheffield Senior Cup.
Meanwhile, Golcar United lost their FA Vase 1st round clash 2-1 against West Didsbury & Chorlton. The Weavers fell behind just two minutes into the game. Dan Naidole scored an 80th minute equaliser but Ben Elliott won it with a penalty.
