It was a tale of two penalties by Joe Jagger which sprang Emley into a commanding lead against Goole on Tuesday night. It was a game they eventually won 3-0 which moved the Pewits up to third in the NCEL Premier Division.
Emley made it three straight wins at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground and have now won four of their six matches in the league, drawing one and losing the other. They have 13 points so far this campaign which is only two behind top team Barton Town.
The Pewits went in front in the 13th minute when Scott Smith was clattered in the Goole box and Jagger sent keeper Mateusz Zaniewski the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Two minutes later Irywah Gooden was clean through on goal but was sent crashing by Zaniewski, who protested too much, and earned himself a sin-binning.
Captain Joshua Dacre took the goalie’s shirt for 10 minutes with his first test having to face another Jagger penalty. Jagger kept his nerve and fired Emley into a 2-0 lead.
After the break Emley wasted no time in sealing the victory when the hard-working Donae Lawrence harried the Goole defence. His initial shot was parried by Zaniewski but the tall midfielder was able to nod the rebound into the net at the Warburton end.
Emley are back on the road on Saturday when a trip to South Yorkshire and Maltby Main beckons. Maltby have just beaten HD postcode rivals Golcar United 3-0 at the Skye Direct Stadium and currently sit 13th in the division.
