Golcar United have signed centre-back Declan McGivern on dual registration from Tadcaster Albion. Weavers manager Ash Connor believes the new man can play a big part in Golcar’s season.
The 27-year-old made his debut for Golcar against HD postcode rivals Emley AFC on Tuesday night at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground where the two teams drew 1-1.
Golcar are still looking for their first win of the season and currently sit 17th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
On the new signing Connor said: “We wanted to get Dec in for a stint because with other players being suspended we just needed to strengthen in that area. I thought Dec did really well against Emley and, at the age he is, he is experienced. We are happy to have him at the club.”
On Saturday (August 20) Golcar take on fellow newly-promoted team Hallam at the Skye Direct Stadium (3.00). Connor is expecting a tough game against the Sheffield-based side.
He said: “Hallam are a good team. They won their league last year and so will be like us wanting to prove that they deserve to be in this division.
“We have played well so far in the few games we’ve had. We have been creating chances, we just haven’t been able to take them and that has been the frustrating thing. I’m sure the wins will come soon enough though.”
