Simply Wigs, a family-run wig company based in Slaithwaite, has raised almost £4,000 for The Kirkwood through their wig bank scheme over the past two years.
The aim was to create a wig company that had knowledge, passion and was genuinely able to make a positive difference to people who wore wigs. Since opening their wig bank in April 2019, the company has had over 2,000 people donate to their cause.
Through their wig bank service, people can donate wigs for just £5. This donation is then match-funded by Simply Wigs, doubling the donation before it is passed on to The Kirkwood.
Emma Garrard, co-founder of Simply Wigs, said: “The wig bank is a wonderful part of Simply Wigs and all of us here are super proud of this service that we offer to our hair loss community.
“There are over 2,000 people who have taken the time to pack up their wigs and write personalised and lovely letters. We are incredibly proud of this thought, effort and ultimately kindness.
“Since we began the Simply Wigs wig bank, we are delighted to have donated £3,966.72 to The Kirkwood and this makes our hearts burst with joy. The Kirkwood plays such a crucial part in the local community, and it is a truly treasured place within Kirklees.”
The Kirkwood’s community fundraiser Joanna Doherty said: “It’s fantastic what Simply Wigs are doing for the local community. We would like to thank Emma and her colleagues for all their hard work and fundraising and all those who have generously donated.”
