Hundreds of runners – competitive athletes or those just doing it for fun – took part in a record-breaking Lindley 10k and Lindley Junior Run through the streets of the village on Sunday.
The event, organised by Lindley Community Group and supported by Lindley Running Club, was a complete sell-out.
The races were overseen by joint race directors Clr Anthony Smith, secretary of Lindley Community Group, and Julia Musoke-Duggan from Lindley Running Club. A team of volunteers ensured the day was a big success.
The highlight of the day came during the main 10k race, where the course record was shattered by Harry Johnson of Salford Harriers & Athletics Club.
Harry crossed the finish line in a time of 31 minutes and 47 seconds, setting a new benchmark for the challenging Lindley route and cementing his place in the event’s history.
The fastest female finisher was Lucy Taylor of Meltham Athletics Club in 41 minutes and 44 seconds.
The Junior Run saw 120 local youngsters hit the streets cheered on by a large, vibrant and supportive crowd.
Clr Smith said: “We are absolutely thrilled with how the day went. To have both the 10k and the Junior Run sell out in advance shows just how much this event means to the local area and runners from all over Yorkshire and beyond.
“We are incredibly grateful to our army of volunteers. We had a record turnout of helpers this year and, without their dedication, an event of this scale simply couldn’t happen.
“A massive congratulations to Harry Johnson for an unbelievable, record-breaking run, to Lucy Taylor for her fantastic victory in the women’s race, and to every single person who laced up their trainers or came out to support.”
